The 636 cc successor to the 599 cc ZX-6R, using a long-stroke four-cylinder engine for stronger low and mid-range pull on both road and track. It added three-mode traction control, selectable power modes, an assist-and-slipper clutch and optional ABS, with a 23.5 degree rake and an aluminium twin-spar frame. Kawasaki pitched it as a sportbike that is usable every day as well as on track.
